Simple Components. Endless Possibilities.

The Simply Set System is designed to give you long-term value, creative freedom, and professional results — without the need to start from scratch for every production. It’s a modular collection of reusable scenic components that can be reconfigured, repainted, and recombined again and again to meet the needs of each new show.

At the core of the system are flats, treads, and decking platforms (in 1.5ft, 3ft, 4.5ft, and 6ft heights), which can be combined to create everything from simple stage backdrops to complex, multi-level environments. The materials are built to last and designed to be easily stored between productions, making them a smart investment for schools, small venues, and amateur theatre groups alike.

RePaint, Reuse, Reimagine

Flats can be repainted multiple times, allowing you to create a fresh look for every performance without having to constantly purchase or build new scenery. Whether you're painting a rustic cottage one month and a Victorian parlour the next, the same components can support both — and more! Paint your own designs, or use one of our painting kits to create detailed, textured backdrops without the fuss.

What Size is Right?

All components of the Simply Set System are compatible with each other, but we recommend picking one of two sizing options depending on the scale of your venue:

Studio TheatreS & Village Halls

Versatile Storytelling in compact spaces

In a black boxes, studio theatres and village halls, a set of 8ft-high flats in varying widths is the perfect size. The flats can be configured with cut-outs for doors and windows to create impactful, realistic sets with multiple entrances and exits. With a few added scenic elements and creative paintwork, the same flats can be adapted to represent different rooms, time periods, or moods—perfect for intimate storytelling spaces.

This example uses flats in 2ft, 3ft and 4ft widths to create a house interior. Door cut-outs create access at the rear and to either side, while a window-cut out adds variety. Black masking flats help to define the proscenium archway.

Small – Medium Venues & SChools

Multi-Level Set – Maximising Space

For a production in a small venue (10ft - 20ft or 3m - 6m proscenium height), we recommend a combination of 3ft and 6ft platforms to build compact but impactful multi-level sets, such as a split-level interiors or layered environments. Flats at corresponding heights can be used to enclose the space, define the architecture, and maintain visual continuity, while modular treads provide safe, elegant access between levels.

This example uses 6ft high flats to create a multi-level factory environment. The top windows allow dynamic lighting to bleed through from a cyclorama, while a center door increases the number of entrances. A 3ft high platform gives variety to the levels, with treads for access.

With the Simply Set System, your scenery evolves with your imagination.

Just combine the pieces you need, decorate them to fit your world, and reconfigure them for the next production—it’s a sustainable, scalable way to design great theatre.
